Custom Development Project
Goal
The Victoria WordPress theme is a custom-designed and developed theme created as part of my web development and UX design portfolio. My goal in building this theme was to gain deeper practical experience in front-end development, WordPress theme architecture, and responsive design, while creating a clean, elegant, and lightweight layout suitable for personal blogs, creative professionals, or small businesses.
I named the theme “Victoria” to reflect a personal connection to the design process and the values it represents—clarity, usability, and attention to detail. The theme emphasizes minimalism, accessibility, and a streamlined user experience, making it an ideal starting point for users who value simplicity and visual coherence. It is built using HTML, CSS (with Flexbox and Grid), PHP, and integrated with the WordPress block editor (Gutenberg) to ensure flexibility and compatibility with current WordPress standards. This project demonstrates my ability to bridge design and development in a real-world environment while adhering to WordPress best practices.
The theme is suitable for freelance creatives, writers, lifestyle bloggers, and anyone seeking a visually consistent and easy-to-maintain digital presence. It includes customizable elements such as headers, featured images, and widget-ready areas, while maintaining fast loading times and mobile responsiveness.
Future Improvements for the Victoria Theme
To improve the Victoria theme further, I plan to:
- Expand compatibility with additional Gutenberg blocks and block patterns.
- Implement a theme customizer or full-site editing (FSE) options.
- Add localization/internationalization features for multilingual use.
- Optimize accessibility to meet WCAG 2.1 standards.
- Publish the theme on WordPress.org to gather user feedback and iterate based on real-world use.
The Victoria WordPress Theme is showcased in use as an online exhibition website example: Faces of Work, Faces of Joy
